We were well placed for our visit, and even spotted a squirrel and a fox, just not together. Caitlin at reception was really friendly and offered to help with our bags. The room was nicely presented and had what we needed, though it felt a little smaller than rooms we’ve had before. I’d recommend staying here.

The rooms were tidy and very clean, and the little pub on site, the door mouse, was nice. It’s a quiet spot with free parking and a bus stop about three minutes away for regular trips into town. Walking to the centre is easy too, around 30-40 minutes. The Premier Inn Restaurant was refurbished in Jan 2026, and the rooms were all refurbished in Feb 2025.

Free parking was plentiful, but that was about the only positive. The room was dusty throughout, with dead flies, mould, cobwebs, grime on the tap, a dirty toilet, bleach marks on the carpet, and somebody else’s belongings left there. The cutlery was dirty too. The TV didn’t work, the air conditioning was out of order, the heater was very loud, and the extractor fan didn’t work. Breakfast never arrived. I contacted customer service about it and was told I’d get a better look next time, which is pretty unbelievable. They haven’t even asked to see my evidence, so here’s a sample. We won’t be coming back.

The breakfast was delicious, as always, and the man running it was lovely and attentive. He apologised that they were short staffed while working both breakfast and the front desk. Check-out was easy, and the hotel was simple enough to navigate. Our room was clean enough and had the usual facilities, though the Premier Plus rooms we requested felt as basic as they come. The location was convenient: free guest parking was available until 11:59pm on checkout day, and we enjoyed the 40-minute walk into the city centre on both days. There’s also a bus just outside. But the man who checked us in was rude and abrasive. I’d booked three rooms for one night, and he didn’t ask for my name or booking reference, acting as if checking us in and taking payment was a hassle. He was no help at all. Our key card stopped working on the second day. We had to make sure someone stayed in the room while we packed and loaded the car, or we wouldn’t have been able to get back in.

The room was much smaller and more cramped than any Premier Inn I’ve stayed in before, and the TV wasn’t working properly. Staff said it was the same for everyone and that nobody was looking into it. The room also wasn’t cleaned after I specifically asked the manager to arrange it while we were out. I thought I saw an eye roll, and when we got back I was told there were no cleaning staff that day and asked if I wanted more towels. That missed the point of asking for a proper room clean. Service was cold throughout. We arrived late and got a quick handover of the key with no welcome. Breakfast was efficient but unfriendly, and when we came back from dinner the reception staff didn’t acknowledge us, just stared at a screen. Even a basic smile or courtesy seemed absent. I’ve stayed at lots of Premier Inns around the country, and this was a real letdown that didn’t live up to what the brand advertises. The lack of warmth came from the whole team, including the manager. I was with my family and didn’t want to make a fuss at the time, but I left very disappointed. This hotel has potential, but the staff’s lack of basic friendliness stopped it meeting the reliable standard I expect from Premier Inn.
