The Fat Badger

Breakfast was 10/10, and the black pudding was absolutely delicious. I ordered room service through a QR code, which was easy and very prompt. The room was really nice, though a little dark because all the bulbs are dim. The building's old and creaky, and there's lots of noise in the morning, so don't expect a lie in. Check-in was smooth. I was there for one night away for work, and it's about a 10-minute walk from the car park, which cost £22.50 a night. Maybe don't use the one they recommend on the website! I'd return.

We chose the Fat Badger for a meal during a weekend visit to the York Xmas Market and weren't disappointed. It's a small, quaint pub tucked on a street corner, but easy to find. We had steak and fish, and the order came quickly and efficiently, with real chips, which you don't see often these days. We also had a tasty sweet. Prices were competitive for the area. Make sure to book, though. York is busy and the favourite pubs fill up fast.

The room had a lovely feel to it, the staff were great, and the food was full of flavour. The pies, though, were only lukewarm at best, which felt like a real kitchen oversight. We’d already waited a while and felt rushed, so there wasn’t time to send them back. We still enjoyed lunch, but expected better quality control.

We visited in November and had fantastic drinks and service. When a group of men started getting a bit too familiar, the staff checked in with us and went out of their way to make sure we felt safe. They were a brilliant team, and the atmosphere was great. Thanks again, guys. I’d absolutely recommend it.
