The Royal Oak Hotel

The room was fantastic, and the staff were friendly. I originally planned to stay one night, but decided to make it two. It's also within walking distance of the castle and the bird watching center.

We popped in after spotting the dog friendly sign, hoping for a table on Friday night as the storm was coming in. They made us feel very welcome, and Maggie our Rottie was welcome too. The menu was lovely. I had delicious homemade soup, and Graeme chose the brie, which looked great. He then had the ribs, while my small lasagne was plenty after the soup. Everything arrived hot and tasted great, and the service was excellent. We stayed for another drink and chatted with some lovely people from Lincoln. A good night.

We were lucky to get a table at the start of a busy bank holiday. The staff rearranged things to fit in my wife, granddaughter, and me, and there were gluten free choices for my wife. When the food arrived, we were all impressed by both its quality and how much there was. Eating out can feel very expensive these days, but this was excellent food for a very reasonable price. The staff made sure we had a really enjoyable time. We'll return next time we're in the area.

We liked our first dinner so much that we came back the following evening during our couple of nights nearby. The food was great value, came out quickly, and the staff were polite, friendly, and helpful.
