The Watergate Inn

The staff were lovely and polite, and my friend's breakfast was great. The room didn't look as appealing as the photos, there was a gap between the carpet and the door, and the thin walls meant I could hear everything, dogs included. The corridors smelled strongly of weed. It's an alright place for a night or so if you don't mind those details.

We came for a full English breakfast and were greeted warmly. Beautiful spot, lovely atmosphere, and the breakfast was incredible. Thank you.

The staff member gave us a lovely welcome and let us check in early. Our room was small but cosy and very clean, with a comfortable bed and a great shower. A shelf or soap dish in the shower would have been useful. The location is handy for York's sights, restaurants, and bars, around a 20-minute walk from the train station.

Avoid this place. The room was dirty, the bathroom had mould, and one of the single bed mattresses was bowed and dipped so badly it couldn't be used. I couldn't raise the problems at first because nobody was around except the one man behind the bar, and it was busy. In the morning there was only a young girl cleaning the bar. In hindsight, I should have told her. When I asked for a refund, the owner basically gaslighted me and said I was lying to get a free stay. They insisted the mattresses were only a couple of months old, so maybe they missed replacing that one. Apparently, "a little bit of mould is ok." Avoid at all costs, or at least look at the TripAdvisor reviews, the pictures speak for themselves.
