The White House Inn

I’ve been here for three weeks, and they still don’t change the sheets. It’s cheap, sure, but don’t expect service. I had to replace three shower light bulbs myself and bring my own tools after the front desk brushed me off when I asked for help at check-in. As for the rooms, forget it.

We booked two nights, but after the first we wanted to leave. The place is dirty, the rooms are in poor condition, and the beds are old and hard. I never saw any bugs, even though I looked, but I got the familiar three or four bites in a line in several spots on my body, so I believe there are bed bugs. Burn it down and start over. I could say more, but this is mainly a warning: if you don’t want to spend your next vacation day figuring out how to deal with a bug problem, choose somewhere with a higher star rating.

It was relatively inexpensive, pet friendly, and the room was clean enough. Nobody bothered us or our vehicle, and I didn’t see any bugs. Still, the building is old and worn, staff were often unavailable, trains kept us from sleeping the first night, and a couple of people milling around the grounds looked shady. Edited to add: I’m pretty sure a spider bit me while I was sleeping Wednesday night. We drove all day Thursday and Friday, and I added a photo of what it looked like when I got home Friday evening.

I didn’t feel safe here. The sheets had bed bugs, questionable people were hanging around outside, and there was no latch or extra lock on the door. The room smelled of smoke and bad body odor, the building was dirty, and the fridge, microwave, and dresser were broken. I even found a rolled-up dollar with drug residue in the nightstand, so I cleaned the room myself. No one answered the phones, the front desk was unattended, and a staff member walked into my room without knocking or telling me first. The customer service and safety were absolutely unacceptable.
