Motel 6 Elizabethtown, KY

We spent a month and a half in a room on the back side with our dog, who has separation anxiety. We often left her alone while we went to work, and staff walked past the room without saying anything, even though she probably whined. Maybe there were no guests next door, or maybe the owner who lives on the front side couldn’t hear her. After we left for a week and came back because we were homeless, we were put on the front side, and suddenly the rules changed. When I questioned the difference, they threatened to call animal control because I left the same dog unattended. The motel allows pets, but a dog whining or getting anxious for a couple of hours is apparently treated as disturbing other guests. Staff were rude and service was poor. The rooms were so small I nearly broke my toe on the wall, and staff would enter for housekeeping when nobody answered the door, which felt like a serious invasion of privacy. I wouldn’t recommend this place. If you stay with a dog, ask for a room on the back side.

I got there a little before check-in, and the man in the office called the cleaning lady so she could get the room ready quickly. It was clean and quiet. He asked whether I wanted a smoking room, and when I said I could smoke in my car, they put an ashtray outside on my A/C. That was a thoughtful touch I didn’t expect. They went out of their way to make sure I was happy, and I was. I’ll be back soon, for sure.

The A/C in my room didn’t work, and they wouldn’t move me to another room. While I was out, housekeeping came in without approval, took the towels, and didn’t replace them. The receptionist had her dog in the office and was rude and seemed entitled when speaking with guests. She had no customer service skills and should be fired.

I only booked here for an event because it was one of the few hotels left in my budget, and I assume they raised prices for it too. This is clearly a two-star place, so I didn’t expect much. The rooms are small but sort of functional. The floors may look clean and have no debris, but they don’t actually mop them, and they don’t feel clean. Our feet were black after the first night, so we had to hand clean the floor with wipes to feel comfortable. A clean floor is the minimum even for a two-star hotel. Check your room and have them clean properly before you settle in.
