Albert Lea Inn and Suites

Our reserved room was listed as sleeping five, but it only had two double beds, with no sofa or pullout. We also found out on arrival that the pool was closed and breakfast wouldn’t be served. Between the missing amenities, conflicting answers from several employees, and the service we got, I’d call ahead before paying to find out what’s actually available. It gives me the impression this place is slowly dying.

The decorations were really nice and subtle for Halloween, and the room was clean and pleasant. The property is massive. The young woman at check-in was chatty and smiled, though checkout with a different clerk was the opposite. I missed breakfast and was disappointed I didn’t get to find out whether it was complimentary or continental. The business center computer wouldn’t turn on, and there was no printer. I’m giving the room and overall stay a 4 mostly because my room was right by the front entrance. I don’t smoke, and I could smell the cigarettes people were lighting. The tub felt slippery enough that I worried about falling while bathing, the door had no security lock, and the drapes wouldn’t close properly.

At least there was heat and warm shower water. Otherwise, there’s no breakfast or pool, the place smells like mold, things in the room are breaking, and the internet barely works.

We stayed with our kids and rented the conference room for a family gathering. Overnight, belongings were stolen from our room. The manager said they’d check the cameras, but it felt like they were just going through the motions. They eventually found footage of the thief, yet several items were never returned. The manager offered a $100 Walmart gift card, which felt like a pitiful apology. It left a sour taste, and the motel seems to have a serious theft problem, possibly involving its own employees or residents. Terrible experience. Avoid this place at all costs.
