Hyatt Place Albuquerque Airport

The late checkout at noon was great, and the kids got to swim in the morning before we left. We were traveling back to Amarillo, Texas, from Arizona and stopped for the night. The price was good, and our room was clean and comfortable. We grabbed a couple of adult drinks and nachos from the little lobby mini bar, while the kids enjoyed the hot breakfast, especially the scrambled eggs and potatoes. We’d definitely stay again.

Booking somewhere sight unseen always makes me nervous, even after I’ve checked pictures and reviews. Viviana was so helpful on the phone and put me at ease. I asked whether she’d let her own mother and grandmother stay there, and she said absolutely. I’ll update this after check-in if needed.

The pictures give a misleading impression. My room hadn’t been properly cleaned, and I ended up cleaning parts of it myself. I showed the front desk before-and-after photos, but when I checked out they asked whether I wanted a snack for the road. On the fifth floor, the hallways smelled like sewer backup, and breakfast was awful, with the hot food cold. I shouldn’t have to clean a hotel room after checking in. I’m taking this place off my list for future trips.

Only one of the two elevators was running during my stay, and it lurched up and down at different points on the way up or down. I came across two other groups who chose the stairs instead. I don’t know whether the ongoing maintenance has been neglected, but there are clearly serious elevator problems. They’d also removed the first-floor elevator fire-safety doors entirely, which looked bad. I can’t imagine the local fire marshal would be happy.
