Hyatt Place Albuquerque/Uptown

The hotel eventually reduced my rate to $75 for the night, which I appreciated, and the associates there were very sweet and helpful. I felt bad for them. But Hyatt needs to rethink its pet-fee policy. As a Globalist, I’ve tried to stay with Hyatt whenever I can, but it’s getting harder, and this will be my last stay at Hyatt Place Uptown. I love the Uptown area in Albuquerque and am glad Marriott and Hilton have hotels there too. Why charge $100 nonrefundable for one pet on top of the room rate? I’ve never paid that much at any hotel. My dog brings her own bed, stays with me, and has never had an accident in a hotel or home. We’re only sleeping here before getting back on the road tomorrow, and won’t even be around for the free breakfast. If damage is the concern, make part of the fee refundable, perhaps $25 nonrefundable and $75 refundable. An extra $100 per room for cleaning seems excessive, and if that’s really the cost, I’d worry about the standard of the cleaning. Next time we’ll use Hilton.

We were comfortable from check-in to checkout, with a clean, quiet room and friendly, accommodating people throughout. The continental breakfast was one of the best I’ve had. I was a little disappointed there wasn’t a hot tub, but it wasn’t a deal breaker. We’ll be back.

For the price, this stay wasn’t worth it, and I wouldn’t come back. The rooms are tiny, with neither closet space nor drawers, so there was nowhere to organize clothes. The bed was uncomfortable and the pillows were completely flat. Breakfast didn’t match the website’s claim that it was one of the best: the waffles were hard, and there were so few choices that we couldn’t eat. They also don’t allow cancellations, even when plans change, and charge extra for early check-in.

The rooms were updated and clean, the breakfast buffet was tasty, and the location was convenient. What made the stay stand out, though, was the staff. From November 5-9, Pralay, Katie, Nicol, Michael and Josh gave my wife and me helpful suggestions for services, shopping, restaurants, and getting around Albuquerque. We were strangers in town, so that help was useful on its own. We were also there for my brother’s funeral, which we didn’t tell them. It was a hard time and we felt drained and distracted. Even the small things Pralay and his associates did made things a little easier for us.
