My wife and I often stay here for our February anniversary when we don’t travel, and we’ve always had a great visit. As a Marriott Bonvoy member, I called the front desk to ask about early check-in and was told it wouldn’t be a problem. When we arrived, the agent couldn’t help us. He went to the back for at least 10 minutes and came back with someone I’m guessing was a manager. We were a little pressed for time, but we still caught our Uber. The room was great, there was lots of hot water, and the lobby bar is a nice place to have a drink.

The noise from the freeway kept us from getting proper sleep. Traffic, including cars and semi-trucks, came through the windows and walls all night. Anyone with an important meeting, event, or competition should think twice, because a full night’s rest seems very unlikely. We were there for my son’s state wrestling tournament the next day, and he felt the effects most when he needed to be at his best. Our family often stays at Marriott properties for tournaments, so this was especially disappointing and far below the consistency, comfort, and service we expect. Check-in felt unwelcoming too. I greeted the front desk employee and asked how she was, but she ignored me and asked what she could help with, even though it was obvious I was checking in. She didn’t mention the complimentary water either, so I had to ask. The refrigerator connection in the room was broken, and I reported it. Although the room had been prepaid, I was charged the room rate plus a $50 incidental hold, making the total around $230. This stay at the Albuquerque Marriott Uptown was nothing like what we expect from a Marriott. I wish it had gone better. I’d appreciate hotel or Marriott management looking into what happened and considering how to make things right after such a poor night.

We had a great stay at the Marriott Albuquerque. What I’ll remember most is how the staff handled the bag we accidentally left behind, which contained significant valuables. They secured it right away and shipped it back to our home the very next day. Their care, honesty, and quick response gave us real peace of mind. We’re very grateful and can’t thank them enough. That’s hospitality done right.

The front desk manager passed our complaints to the restaurant manager, who passed them to the event manager, whom we never even spoke with. The restaurant manager kept arguing, though we both knew he was wrong. One person at the front desk did try to put things right, and we appreciated her. We also heard from other guests who’d booked rooms in advance only to find what they’d booked wasn’t available. Marriott’s recognition of loyalty members was nonexistent. The mobile keys didn’t work, so we stood in a line about 30 people deep for over an hour, and they still weren’t working. Nearly 100 people were waiting to get into an event, packed into the hallway, with no crowd control. The Marriott Bonvoy app, where we booked, didn’t say the concierge room was closed on Saturdays and Sundays. None of the entrances were marked for guest check-in. Appalling. What a train wreck. Don’t book Marriott hotels from the Columbia Corporation franchise.

The breakfast buffet and complimentary early evening service were fabulous, and the staff were attentive. I’m a PlatinumElite member, and this is absolutely one of the finest Marriot properties I’ve stayed at. General Manager Mike is a real leader, always present and inspiring to everyone. We joked that he never goes home. A true Kapitan of his Ship. Big thanks to Michael, or Mike, as he encourages guests to call him. He even gave us his mobile number. WOW! A real gem.
