The room-cleaning issue would make me think twice about returning for my next two nine-day work trips to Alexandria. During my eight-day stay, nobody cleaned the room or replaced the dirty towels, and both bins filled up. Guests shouldn't have to handle those basic tasks themselves. There was also a worrying mix-up when I arrived on Tuesday afternoon: I opened the door to a room that was already occupied. Thankfully, nobody was inside, though I did see a sheathed knife on the table. I went straight to the lobby, got another room, and accepted the apology. I’ve stayed exclusively at IHG hotels for work, around 240 days a year for two years, so these are basic parts of the guest experience and customer service. I appreciate that both incidents were apologized for and that points were offered, but that wasn't the point of raising the complaints.

We’ll be back for our monthly trips to Alexandria. The rooms were just as pictured, with two large beds, a fridge and freezer, a microwave, a stovetop, dressers, and more, and the staff treated us with a lot of care. We arrived at 3:30 a.m. on December 26 because of a family emergency and asked if we could get a room despite the hour. The front desk woman quickly arranged two rooms beside each other. When our emergency at the hospital carried into the next day, she extended our stay in case we needed another night and said we could sort out the cost later. We really appreciated how considerate and compassionate the workers were during a difficult time.

Tish checked us in and was really friendly, even suggesting a few places we could visit as a family while we were in town. The rooms were clean. There’s no free continental breakfast, but the complimentary coffee was very good. Laundry is free to use, though you have to buy the supplies, and there’s no pool here. We had a lovely stay.

The staff stood out: friendly and professional. The rooms were good, and housekeeping is available when you ask, which is normal. I couldn’t print anything from the computer in the office center.

It’s a quiet place for a longer stay, with comfortable beds and, surprisingly, really comfortable pillows too. There’s no breakfast, but coffee, tea, and cocoa are free around the clock. Restaurants are an easy drive away. The room has a full-size refrigerator, microwave, sink, and a small coffee maker.
