La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Houston Southwest

We spent two nights here, the two days before Thanksgiving, and were out most of the time, so we only used the room to shower and sleep. Even so, it was disappointing. The damp room smelled musty, probably because the carpet hadn’t been cleaned properly in a long time. There was a strong, unpleasant cigar smell on the third-floor hallway that made it hard to breathe. The hallway and stair carpets were old, worn, and extremely dirty. The elevator was there but never worked, so I had to take the stairs every time. The pool and gym were advertised, but stayed closed and looked like they were just for show, not for guests. The front desk staff never smiled or greeted people. Everyone seemed unhappy and unfriendly. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. There are several better-rated hotels and motels around the Bellaire Blvd area that should be more comfortable.

We got a clean room with what we needed, and the service was good. Cigarette and marijuana smoke lingered in the room, though, and highway noise outside made it hard to get a good night’s sleep. I suppose I got what I paid for.

Bugs were in both the room and bathroom, and the toilet area didn’t feel clean at all. The hotel didn’t meet basic comfort or cleanliness standards, and I wouldn’t recommend it or stay again. The hallways constantly smelled of cigarette smoke and weed, which made even walking to the room uncomfortable. The elevator was out of service the whole time, so I had to carry all my luggage up the stairs.

We left early after seeing three cockroaches in our room. The evening and night staff were very unfriendly, the halls smelled of cigarette smoke, and the shower sprayed in every direction. You could hear private conversations in the hallway. I’ll never stay in a La Quinta again.
