Embassy Suites by Hilton Alexandria Old Town

The beds were the one drawback for me. The mattresses felt quite hard, and the doubles seemed small, though it wasn’t enough to spoil my stay. We were here for MAGfest, and not getting a hotel near the convention center felt much less disappointing once we arrived. Staff were attentive, the suites had plenty of room even at the smallest size, and the pool and hot tub were lovely. The 5:30-7 happy hour with two free drinks was such a treat. Breakfast was genuinely good for a hotel, and public transit was close by. Even the elevators were great, they came quickly and one was almost always waiting on the ground floor. I’d stay at Embassy Suites again.

What mattered most was that the staff listened and took care of us so professionally. We were in town for a conference and had a reservation problem of our own making. Anthony Garcia Perez at the front desk kindly went well beyond what was expected to sort it out, and Maria helped move us into another room so we could settle in sooner. The room was spotless, breakfast was great, and the location couldn’t be beat, but the people made the biggest difference.

It feels like coming home each time we visit, and we plan to keep staying here. The morning breakfast buffet is lovely, and the evening social hour is a nice extra. We’ve been here several times in the last six months, and the staff have made each stay easy for my family. Alan is my go-to for anything we need, and he’s made every visit a great experience for all of us. Anthony, Romancia, Henry, Justin, and manager Steve have also been standouts. The location is excellent for all kinds of transit, and it’s an easy enough walk down historic King Street to the waterfront. There are so many restaurants nearby, along with art, entertainment, and services.

The staff across the front desk, housekeeping, and dining were friendly and efficient, and the breakfast was tasty with plenty of choice. There’s a made-to-order omelette station, plus a free drink and snacks from 5:30-7:30pm. I had a relaxing memorial view over the metro station. Hearing the Amtrak whistle and looking over to see it arrive was oddly soothing and fun. This atrium-style hotel carries noise, so I could hear hallway conversations and kids running from the living room area, but the bedroom at the back was much quieter. I’d happily return. The location is great for visiting DC: King St station is just across the street, with the blue and yellow lines going to Pentagon City mall and the National Gallery without changing trains. Amtrak is also across the street. King Street restaurants and cute shops are walkable, or the free King St trolley runs daily from 11-11 across from the hotel. Parking is self-park and allows unlimited in-and-out, at $38/night, cheaper than some other hotels but still not cheap. It was busy on the weekend, but the multi-level lot still had spaces. The stalls are very tight because a strange metal column sits in every other spot, so getting the car between them can be tricky.
