Holiday Inn Alexandria at Carlyle by IHG

I don’t usually write reviews, but Jadeep and Najowa really deserve the recognition. I needed dependable Wi-Fi for work while passing near Holiday Inn on Eisenhower Avenue in Alexandria, and stopped at the lobby to ask for help even though I wasn’t a guest. Jadeep used his personal password to get me connected, and neither he nor Najowa turned me away or gave me a hard time. I’m sorry if I’ve misspelled either name. Their kindness and professionalism made it possible for me to get my work done. That sort of hospitality reflects well on the staff and the IHG brand. Thanks again to Najowa and Jadeep. I paid $139 a night for the room, then had to put down a $150 deposit, and they only accepted credit or debit cards. That meant nearly $300 out of pocket just to stay in a dated hotel. Mr. Patel must only own this location, because I’ve never seen a deposit that high at a higher end hotel. Everywhere else in the country, it’s $50. Deposits equal to the room price are something I’ve only encountered at very low end hotels.

The breakfast was far better than we expected, and the staff were friendly. Our rooms were clean, the lobby was nicely decorated, and the bar and cafe made the place feel comfortable. The elevators worked efficiently, too. Wi-Fi was weak on the 10th floor, though the room’s height and closeness to the freeway helped with mobile data. We were eight on the first stop of a long road trip, four adults, two toddlers, and two cats. It was a pleasant stay for all of us, and pets are allowed.

I spent a week here in September and would book again when I’m back in town. The bed was comfortable, the internet was quick enough for daily use, and the shower water got hot. The bathroom was standard hotel fare. It’s a great location, close to the Eisenhower Metro station, with plenty of restaurants and a Wegman's nearby. When you check in, be sure to ask for daily room cleaning. Since 2020, some hotels only clean on request.
