The valet setup caused the most trouble. There seemed to be only one person working, cars regularly backed up at the entrance, and with nowhere to wait for a spot, we had to circle the block again and again. Coming and going was stressful. The room's layout was awkward too: the TV was on a side wall past the foot of the bed, so watching meant sitting awkwardly at the end and facing sideways. There was no adjustable mount. One side of the bed had just a tiny shelf, barely enough for a phone to charge, and there was no luggage rack, dresser, drawers, or coffee maker. It's a decent hotel with clean rooms, comfortable beds, a nice rooftop bar, and friendly front desk staff, but all the inconveniences made the stay fairly poor.

We had an issue with room servicing one day, and the hotel took the initiative to address and resolve it. I appreciated how attentive the staff were throughout. The ground-floor restaurant was very good, with helpful, attentive staff on every shift. Rooms are exceptionally well maintained, and the hotel is pleasant in both style and service. Its location is great, close to public transport links and the harbour. I'd recommend staying here.

Amari, Michael, and Joshua at the front desk really made our birthday getaway special. We were upgraded, and my husband got a lovely surprise treat. Michael checked in with us during the stay, and Amari made sure we could sleep in before heading out. The hotel is beautiful, modern, and has a soothing feel, in a lovely area within walking distance of shopping and food. The team were more accommodating, professional, and kind than we expected. I hope upper management sees this and the other lovely reviews about them. They're great ambassadors for the brand and deserve recognition. Stay amazing, we'll see you soon. Thanks for a lovely birthday getaway.

We booked through Capital One travel for a weekend concert in Washington DC and won't stay at the Heron again. After checkout, a $210 charge appeared on our card, on top of the room rate and the bar drinks we knew about. When we called, we were told the historic building came with a daily fee, along with amenity fees and city taxes. They said this was posted online, but under “Fees & Charges” we could only find a $25 Daily Mandatory Destination Charge. If the extra cost had been clearly explained, we would have stayed elsewhere or at least known what to expect. Another $200 isn't spare change for some of us. We're disappointed and won't recommend the hotel.

The building's history comes through, while the decor and details make it feel thoroughly modern. The heron theme carries from the wallpaper through the room, and the bathroom felt luxurious. Our room was modest in size but comfortable, clean, and elevated, with higher ceilings on the top floor adding a sense of grandeur. There are a few nice views of the historic surroundings, and the location is better than most nearby hotels for hopping between restaurants. I visited to see how the Hilton takeover compared with other big brands nearby. We enjoyed the stay and would like to return. As a loyal Hilton Diamond member, though, I was disappointed that our birthday, which was noted at the desk, wasn't marked in the room or at check-in. We paid to choose a “deluxe” room on a higher floor of the five-story building, though we often receive suite upgrades as a benefit. As of winter 2026, there are no suites if you need more space. The Hilton app advertised free breakfast and a $30 member credit, but desk agents said that was an error with the new takeover. One agent offered another $30 credit after I shared my disappointment, but it wasn't applied to the bill at checkout. I hope our status and loyalty are acknowledged, and the bill is adjusted accurately if we visit again.
