Burr Oak Motel

It's an inexpensive place and really not bad. They allow pets, and I've stayed twice already and would come back. The first time, I had my cat with me and thought the room could've been cleaner. I didn't bring the cat on my second stay, and the room was much better. Otherwise, all was good.

The people here were really kind, and the bed was comfortable. I paid $65 for the night. It's a cheap, no-frills place that's very dated, though the AC, fridge, sheets, and towels were all fine. The place could use an upgrade, but I figure that would probably mean higher prices.

We asked for our money back after seeing the room, but they refused. I wish I'd taken photos or videos. There were roaches, including one in the fridge, and grime built up in every crevice. The floors didn't look vacuumed, which made me wonder how much they really cleaned or disinfected. The countertop looked like it had been used as a cutting board. The bed was the worst I've ever slept on, like cardboard over springs under a sheet. An old floor heater right below the head of the bed made it unbearably hot there. The shower faucet was too low for anyone over 5'5". It seemed like the place hadn't been updated or cleaned since it was built. Parking was careless too: two trucks at the front nearly blocked me in, parked where they shouldn't have been. I've stayed at some bad motels, and this was definitely one of them. Stay anywhere else in Algona. Don't waste your money.

I travel for work, and the weekly rate here is good. It's on the edge of town and very quiet. The rooms are dated, but the bed is comfortable, the shower pressure is strong, and there's a mini fridge and microwave. The floors could use more frequent vacuuming, and the towels are old and thin.
