We enjoyed wine on the spacious porch in the evening, then had a delicious hot breakfast Marcia prepared so skillfully. The details really make the stay. This fabulous mansion is charming and beautifully decorated, with clean rooms and comfy beds. It would make any occasion feel special. The innkeepers can share the history of this lovely painted lady, and having a professional photographer on site to capture memories is priceless. Great value and friendly service!

Once inside, the Allen Home was beautiful. Marcia, the owner, gave us a quick tour when we arrived, and our clean, cute room had a king size bed and a smart TV. She was happy to answer questions, and there were lots of coupons for local places on the bedside table. It’s close to downtown Allegan, and we had a great experience. I’d stay again on our next trip to southwest Michigan. The peeling paint on parts of the outside and less than ideal parking made me a little anxious when I first arrived.

The Davis room was lovely and had a really nice in-room jacuzzi, though it was a bit cramped for my boyfriend and me even though we’re both slender. It also connects to the library, which means less privacy than I expected; that should be mentioned on the website. The inn itself is beautiful and tastefully restored, but for the high rates the service needs work. On an unusually hot spring night, it was 86 degrees outside and our room was uncomfortably warm. Guests can’t control the climate in their rooms. When I mentioned the heat, the manager brushed it off and said I could cool down when we went out to dinner. She adjusted the temperature only the next morning, when my boyfriend suggested it, just as we were checking out. Breakfast was disappointing and repetitive. Link sausage was served every morning and tasted like bulk Costco food. The pancakes were dry, and the French toast was covered in a strange banana mixture that left the bread soggy, almost like a saturated sponge. My boyfriend got coffee, but she didn’t offer me any. She cleared my plate before I’d finished, then the next day served me only one crepe. She was rude to me more than once and seemed to prefer male customers. I’m not demanding or difficult, but it felt like she had an issue with me. We also found a towel stained with what looked like old, dried blood. For $600 for three nights, it hardly felt worth it. There’s potential for this to be a great place.

The room was charming and the bed comfortable. The hostess who welcomed us was friendly and suggested places to get dinner, though we ended up driving to Kalamazoo. Delano inn bed and breakfast is a huge, beautiful house, just a quick walk from downtown. A friend had recommended it, and I’m glad we went.

My eleven year old daughter felt so fancy, and we had a perfectly lovely visit. We spent the night to celebrate her 4.0 GPA. Marcia was warm and welcoming, and her attention to detail made it feel magical, from the cozy bathrobes to the elegant antique dishes. The place has a sophisticated, historic feel. Highly recommend!
