Allen Park Motor Lodge

I spent about three months here and had a good stay overall. The owner and room attendants were great, though there were a couple of employees I could have done without. The rooms were very clean and I didn’t see any bugs. When we had a power problem in one room, they moved us to another. Long stays are fairly affordable compared with a lot of places.

The room was clean and nice, and the snack shop was great. We checked in Saturday night with Shawn, who’s quirky but very friendly and made us feel welcome. Leaving on Sunday was a different story: the front desk man, whose name I didn’t get because he didn’t offer it, was rude and unprofessional. While we waited for our refund, he complained about Shawn and berated him. It’s still a good place and we’d stay again, but next time we’ll wait away from the window.

The room was clean, comfortable, and spacious, with a large window looking onto a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood street. I checked plenty of reviews before booking because the price seemed too good for a place this nice, but it really was. The desk clerk was welcoming and accommodating at check-in, asking whether we wanted a quieter room or one with outside access. We chose an interior room, where the doors open to a hall rather than an outer walkway. I’d seen complaints about street noise, but the road out front didn’t seem especially busy, and choosing a room at the back or inside should help if you’re sensitive to noise. We were in Detroit for a concert, and the hotel was an easy 15-minute drive downtown. It’s on the south side, which made the drive home convenient. There’s a well-stocked little snack shop in the lobby and fast food within walking distance. I visit Detroit a few times a year and plan to stay here on future trips.

The staff were accommodating, and the maids handled my requests well. My room was tidy and very clean, with a fridge and microwave, and the Wi-Fi was fast. There’s coffee in the lobby around the clock, plus laundry on site. The snack shop is open 24 hours, accepts EBT, and has toiletries, food, drinks, and snacks at inexpensive prices. It’s a clean, budget-friendly hotel in a central spot. I’ll definitely come back, and it’s my new go-to when I’m nearby.
