Viejas Casino Willows Hotel

The restaurant food was extremely disappointing. It tasted worse than Denny’s, which surprised me for a casino resort that presents itself as higher-end. The resort felt very low-budget, and the customer service was poor. If you expect the upscale casino hotel experience of the major Las Vegas resorts, this isn't the place. The atmosphere and service reminded me of a budget casino like Circus Circus Las Vegas. I had another frustrating interaction around 9 AM. A staff member named Faith called to say my girlfriend was at the entrance and told me to come downstairs. I left in a hurry without my ID or room key because she said to come immediately. Once downstairs, Faith insisted I needed ID for a replacement key. She could have told me on the phone to bring my ID or room key, and the whole exchange felt rude and unprofessional. At the pool, I asked for an extra towel when it wasn't even busy. Staff said getting a second towel was “against policy,” and were strict and unfriendly about something so small. Between the service, unnecessary rules, and bad food, the stay was a major letdown. I wouldn't recommend it if you want a professional, high-quality resort experience.

The casino itself was very nice, with good customer service and no complaints. I had a great time there. The gas station was a different story. I was pumping fuel just after midnight when it closed, and after hanging up the nozzle I went in for a receipt because the screen said it was inside. A guy mopping near the door answered my knock with a crappy attitude, said they were closed, then told me I needed to pay at the pump. He didn't even look up to see what I needed. That gas station service gets a negative one star. That one guy has put me off visiting again.

We spent two nights there a couple of days ago, and it was great, as it always is when we get the chance to visit. Everyone around the casino was friendly and helpful from check-in through checkout. I especially liked being able to get our own drinks, including hot coffee, and how easy it was to use the grab and go. The location gets 4 stars only because the casino is so far from our home. For slot players and high-roller blackjack fans, this has everything you need in San Diego, so there's no reason to go to Vegas. Guest service and comps are the best, the pool facilities are impeccable, rates are reasonable, and the food is high quality with no tax. Your wife can shop at coach&MK across the street. Baron rotates its menu through the day, and the grove steakhouse has a wide array. Don't complain about limited food options, you're not here to eat anyway. They meet your every need and exceed expectations in every aspect. Enjoy cheap ev charging in a brand new parking garage.
