The location is fairly central, parking is decent, and there’s a nice patio seating area on the balcony and by the lot. Housekeeping was friendly too. Still, big work trucks sometimes double park and fill the spaces, so you may need to find somewhere else to park. They’re also very loud around 6 a.m., though that’s not the hotel’s fault. We arrived late and managed to get a room, but an overpowering smell greeted us. We found an old Air Wick plug-in, unplugged it, and aired out the room. By the next day the odor had eased. It’s a much older hotel, which was expected in a small town. The toilets are short and small, and ours kept running for about 15 minutes after every flush. The beds aren’t great, but they’ll do in a pinch. I’d stay again if I needed to.

Our construction schedule changes from week to week, so sometimes I need to cancel rooms or check out early. We’ve booked several rooms at the Trailside for months, and the staff have always been understanding and accommodating. They’re friendly, and the rooms are clean. If you’re in Alturas, I recommend staying at the Trailside Inn.

I spent two weeks at the Trailside Inn and felt right at home. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and clean, and the inn is cozy, well kept, and in a lovely spot. The staff were wonderful. A special thanks to manager Kevin, whose care and attention to detail made a real difference. He went above and beyond to make my stay feel just right, and you can see how much he cares about this place. I’d recommend the Trailside Inn if you’re looking for a really welcoming stay.

We’ve stayed here a few times and found it acceptable for a small town with few hotel choices, despite the very old rooms. This time, though, the breakfast offering really changed my opinion. Breakfast was included in writing, and I asked about it at check-in, but in the morning all we got was biscuits and gravy. When we asked about anything else, the manager said, “That is all they give us.” They could at least have put out a few boiled eggs. It would be better to say there’s no breakfast and lower the room price at The Trailside Inn Alturas. Alturas is so small there wasn’t another breakfast spot to go to, so we left town hungry and laughing about it.

The service was friendly and kind, and the breakfast was fine for the price and type of property. They seem to do the best they can with what they have, but the room was darker and dingier than I expected. The carpet needs a deep steam clean, and the chair was clearly stained and gross. The room smelled like wet dog with rug deodorizer on top. It was tolerable, but cleaning could definitely address it. With the limited choices in sleepy Alturas, this might be the best option around. Still, next time I’d pick the accommodations and vibe in Cedarville. Also, the listing photos are misleading: the pool has been removed, and the flowers shown around the lobby building with trees and flowers appear to have been digitally altered. That practice is questionable at best.
