Best Western Plus Amarillo East Hotel

The room was roomy and the furniture looked new, which made the poor cleaning especially frustrating. There was hair on much of it, debris had been swept into the hallway carpet instead of vacuumed, and the shower seemed not to have been properly cleaned in quite a while. Our toilet was clogged too. It’s a fairly new hotel with real potential, but staff or management need to put more effort into doing the job well.

I’m not usually a fan of Wyndham properties, and there are other places around, but this one turned out to be a decent surprise. Mobile service was excellent in both the hotel and the rooms, with AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile towers across the street. The Wi-Fi hardly seemed necessary. EV drivers also get free charging, so you can arrive with a low battery and top it up while staying.

The room, number 215, was spacious, and the hotel felt new, clean, and safe. Service was good, and breakfast was kept tidy and replenished, with Texas waffles, sausage, eggs, hash browns, cereal, pastries, yogurt, and oatmeal. Fast food is within walking distance. Parking spaces are very cramped, and there aren’t good dog pee areas around the hotel, though the neighboring Microtel has grassy spots. Pets are welcome, but can’t be left alone in the room or allowed on the bed. Some dust in the room and a slightly dirty shower, plus the soaps felt cheap.

We’ve stayed at a couple of Best Westerns over the last few days, and this one was much better. The room and bathroom were clean, and the beds were comfortable, though the pillows weren’t. The shades are a feature I really like in newer rooms. It’s pet friendly, which is always a plus for us. Noise was a downside: thin walls let sound through, and traffic was loud even from our room at the back. One staff member I met was nice, but one of the women there when we arrived came across as a bit rude.
