Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Amarillo I-40 West, TX

The air conditioning worked, and having a first-floor room was handy while traveling with my dog. I only missed having a freezer compartment in the mini-fridge, though the ice machine worked well and I used ice instead. The stay itself was good. My issue is with the approach: there are North Soncy, South Soncy, and Old Soncy right together, and Amarillo's crossovers had lots of rainwater on them and were hard to find. If you don't know the area, they look like something for emergency vehicles, not roads to drive on. A map on the website showing how to get in would have helped.

Breakfast was good, and the room and the whole area were tidy and clean. It's a decent stop if the price is reasonable. The bed was a little hard but otherwise fine. I did get frustrated when I asked for a tissue box because ours had just one tissue left. The staff were snippy and said I had to come downstairs to get one. Smart.

I wouldn't recommend this place. The best part of our stay was the dolphin pool, and breakfast was decent, though it didn't match what they advertised. In our room, it looked like someone had only changed the sheets: there was a hairball in the corner and hair all over the pullout couch. The staff were extremely rude. The shower barely got warm, and the hot tub was barely warm too, so it wasn't really a hot tub.

The hotel is quiet, clean, and far enough from the highway that you don't hear traffic. The staff are great, the beds are comfortable, the shower has good pressure and gets hot, and the free breakfast is good. I'd stay again if I'm in Amarillo. The building is older and could use fresh paint, carpet, and fixtures; some bathroom tile and grout were cracked or missing. Those are cosmetic issues and didn't take away from the hotel's overall quality. If you're over six feet tall, the shower might be a bit awkward.
