Days Inn by Wyndham Amarillo - Medical Center

We left without staying the night and still ended up with multiple charges on our credit card. The floors in the pet-friendly room were sticky, stained, and clearly hadn't been cleaned; there were scratch marks on the door, a strong dog-poop smell, and suspicious marks on the bedspread. I understand the marks alone might not prove the sheets were unwashed, but they should be replaced once in a while. We politely asked Stephanie at the front desk for another room. She denied anything was wrong, then gave us a room with two beds instead of the one we had booked. That room also had small stains on the bedding, unmopped floors, and an overwhelming smell of dog poop, so we went to another hotel. When I contacted Booking.com days later, they asked the hotel to refund me, but Stephanie declined even though we hadn't used the room. Later, she accused me of taking pillows and said my dog damaged the room. I don't have a dog, and we brought our own pillows. We have a cat, but it never entered the room. When we called to get names so we could complain to management, she said her name was Sabrina. The front desk argued and made accusations instead of trying to help. The place was disgustingly unsanitary, and the staff were rude and unprofessional.

The night-shift front desk guy was awesome and quickly found a great pet room for me and my chihuahua when we pulled up during our road trip. The exterior looked nice, the room was carpet-free, which I love, and it was very clean. I took one star off because I had to kill a little roach. With lots of travelers and older buildings nearby, I know bugs can be hard to get rid of, but the hotel is a great deal if they can handle that issue. The location is convenient for getting back on I-40, and there's plenty of coffee nearby if you prefer to go out for it.

The room was filthy when we arrived. The carpet was dirty, there were mud marks in the bathroom that could have been mopped away, the sheets were stained, and the smell was awful. I told the front desk, but they offered neither another room nor a refund, so we drove the two hours back home. We were in town for my son's baseball tournament, and since our reservation was made ahead and it was late, we gave the place a chance. I hadn't realized when booking that all rooms were exterior access, which I don't like; that's my preference, and I should have checked more closely. The area also seemed sketchy. I'm grateful I booked through Priceline. The hotel manager told Priceline's representative she'd declined a refund because the room was clean, so I had to send Priceline photos to show how awful it was. Beware, I really wouldn't recommend it.

We didn't even need to enter the room to know we weren't comfortable staying there. I felt unsafe at check-in: no one was at the desk when I entered the lobby, then a man came in wearing a robe, with no uniform or name tag. I thought he might be a guest or someone off the street. I'd checked in online because I thought everything would be fine, and I know I was at the right place since I went into the lobby and got my keys. We'd stayed at two Wyndham properties before this and had no issues. I called Wyndham Rewards about a refund and was told it wasn't possible. As a member, I'm disappointed. The hotel's response was even more disappointing and disgusting. Two of my three Wyndham experiences over those three days were okay, but this one has convinced me never to stay with Wyndham again. They may think that's unfair, but I'm not compromising my comfort or safety to save a few bucks.
