Hilton Garden Inn Amarillo

Pamela welcomed us this time at reception with a big smile and did everything she could to make us feel at home. We’ve stayed at Hilton Garden Inn Amarillo a couple of times on road trips and keep coming back for the great value. The rooms aren’t fancy, but they’re spotless and comfortable, with a Kurig coffee machine, fridge, and microwave oven. Everyone we’ve dealt with has been so friendly and helpful. Breakfast has both hot and cold food, plus healthy choices. Thanks to the Hilton Garden Inn Amarillo team, we’ll be back.

Anita gave us a very warm welcome at check-in, and the room itself was comfortable. They were also able to put us on the first floor as we requested. The onsite restaurant looked like it had many more choices online than it actually offered, which was disappointing. I’d never paid $75 as a pet deposit before. I paid for breakfast for the first time, but it was the same sort of food you get free at other places. The person at the breakfast bar told my husband he needed to fill out a form, even though we’d prepaid. Was that somehow about tipping her? He wasn’t impressed, so we decided to find something along our route instead. When I asked the front desk to refund the breakfast we didn’t use, they said prepaid meals couldn’t be refunded. After this being my second less than thrilling stay at a Hilton, I plan to avoid the chain.

We had a pleasant stay overall. It’s a fairly new place, and it was quiet, clean, and easy to check in and out of. The only hassle was parking in back when the back doors couldn’t be used. At night, we had to walk all the way around to the front in the cold.

The morning manager was wonderful, and breakfast was pretty darn good, though it wasn’t included in the stay. The rest of the visit felt off for a Holiday Inn, and nobody seemed to care. It was snowing, the side walls were icy, and even after we asked them to put salt down, nothing was done. I was trying to help my 87 yr old mother get through the door, holding her arm, while we waited to check in. The other woman at the desk was busy with someone, and a guy sat on a bar stool behind the reservation desk playing on his phone. When he finally said he hadn’t even seen me, I wanted to tell him to get off his phone. It’s all on camera.
