Residence Inn Amarillo

The staff were great, but I can’t give this more than one star. For the first few days, the AC barely worked, then the unit died in the middle of the night with a horrible screech. There was a strange smell in the room, and the shower drain hardly worked. The dishwasher had brown clumps in it that I can only imagine were mold or rotten food. The dishes stuck together, probably because of whatever was going on in there. The walls and couch were filthy, so I covered the couch with an extra sheet. This was one of the most run-down, poorly maintained properties I’ve stayed at. I’d recommend avoiding it at any cost.

We’ve stayed here several times over the years, but the place seems to have gone downhill in the last year. I wonder if it has new, lazy management that doesn’t want to fix anything. There was a note by the AC saying not to set it below 68. What kind of service is that for a Marriott? The top sheets were dirty and nasty, and the dishes hadn’t been cleaned properly. Management, do better.

We arrived at midnight in November to a room that was 75 degrees. I set it to 65, but it was 72 when we woke up. There was no shampoo and the internet didn’t work. Our keys also had to be remade twice in under 9 hours. Breakfast was only coffee and brisket and gravy.

The bed was hard, like sleeping on the floor, and the place clearly shows its age. The attached photos show the wear. There’s a loud toilet exhaust fan, cracked floor tiles, a missing rack in the refrigerator, and no top cover on the microwave. Two of the three receptacles in the kitchen don’t work, and there are stains on the carpet and in the tub. I’m going to ask if they have a better room. If not, I’ll go to another hotel.
