Hampton Inn & Suites Ames

Update: I had booked a room online for March 9, but my card was charged for March 10. I planned to arrive at 4:00am and leave at 10:00am, using my $75 in One Key cash. After booking, I called Expedia right away. They said the hotel often gets emailed and may allow a cancellation without losing everything. The hotel replied that it denied the request. I thought someone might let me check in early, as a woman at a competitor had done for my birthday, or move the booking a night earlier or later, but neither happened. I've spent thousands at Hampton, and hundreds here, as well as thousands at my favorite place, Ankeny Hampton, where I stay two or three days a week. I won't return to any Hampton now. I was already upset with Ian at the overnight front desk, and this made it worse. Original: As a Hampton Inn customer and Platinum Hilton Honors member, I was appalled by Ian's lack of empathy, care, effort, and attitude at the overnight front desk. I told him I spend thousands at Ankeny Hampton, and he said it was a different franchise. I got one runaround after another, along with parables and no compassion. I'm done with Hampton, and because of Ian, I plan to cancel my business account with Ankeny too. Good luck, L.

I’m a Diamond member and travel for work. When I arrived, three managers were decorating one shelf and there was a front desk clerk, but nobody greeted me. As I passed, I thought I heard one of the women scoff and say, “hello…?” as if I should have acknowledged her, the way a staff member walking in might. I’m Latina, and I felt invisible throughout the stay. They didn’t greet me at all, not even when I went downstairs for coffee in the morning. Thankfully, it was only a one-day stay, and I won’t need to come to Ames for business again. It wasn’t my money paying for the trip, but I would never choose to spend my own money somewhere I don’t feel welcome.

The digital check-in and room controls all worked, and my room was clean with no musty smell. The entrances, halls, and elevators were clean and well maintained too. I had a great night's stay, though I didn't try breakfast. I'd recommend this location if you're in the area.

The indoor pool was warm, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. We also had a very clean, well-kept room and a great breakfast, with a strong range of hot and cold choices. Our two-night stay was excellent.
