Hotel UMass

A unique place to stay while visiting the college. The room was clean and comfortable, and the housekeeping team was awesome. My husband and son both left their AirPods behind, and a team member literally ran down to return them to us in the garage.

I paid for two king rooms, but got one king and one queen after the hotel said there were no adjoining kings and that one room would need to be downgraded. They explicitly told me to request the price difference back from the booking company after the stay. I did exactly that, and the hotel rejected the refund request. They refused to return the difference for the room I didn't get.

The room's heating system made the air so dry that I slept badly. My lips, face, and hands were very dry, and I woke after an hour or two needing water. The TV remote barely responded, and after two attempts at making coffee, I gave up. The coffee maker's “insert cup” and “brewing” lights never came on, and it produced cold, very light brown water with coffee grounds in it. The whole stay felt like one big struggle, and I was totally dumbfounded and very disappointed. I checked out at 4:30 AM even though I could have stayed until 11. The manager called after 5 PM, although I'd been told he'd call when he got in after 7 AM. The worst experience I've had at any motel or hotel.

The rooms were spacious and clean, with great views, and housekeeping did a great job every two days. Breakfast was just mid, but the room still felt like a good package at an affordable price. It's close to Amherst College campus and several bus stops. I definitely disagree with the reviews saying the rooms look like a hostel, though I can't speak to the other issues people mentioned.
