Days Inn by Wyndham Amherst OH – Near Cleveland, Cedar Point & Lake Erie

The photos don’t match the rooms, and with new management this place needs renovation before I’d consider staying again. It’s a dive, with peeling paint and filthy carpets in the common areas. The bed had no blanket, it took three requests to get two extra towels and pillows, and we had to ask for an ice bucket. We refused the first room and were given their “deluxe” room instead. That room was larger and clean, but the rest of the stay wasn’t worth even $55 a night. Avoid it.

There’s plenty of parking, including spaces for semi trucks, buses, and RVs. Restaurants and shopping are nearby, and the highway is close with easy access on and off. The staff were friendly and courteous, and the place was clean and quiet. I’d recommend staying here.

The location is convenient, with a gas station and convenience store next door and a Canes chicken place on the other side. The TV and fridge worked, and the PTAC unit kept the room at a comfortable temperature. My room was old and outdated, though, and had no phone. I called the front desk on my cell, but they didn’t answer and the voicemail was full. There was a $20 security deposit at check-in, and no signs to point you toward the rooms, just directions to the back building. Some rooms have been renovated, but mine wasn’t. The free breakfast was less than what some guys were making outside their room. The metal bed frame was noisy when I moved, and stuck out beyond the bed.

The parking lot was covered in snow and slush that soaked my shoes and socks. A front desk employee lied when he said someone would come clear it. Breakfast was barely available: fruit loops, coffee, and a basket of bananas and apples, though one customer took all the bananas. The juice machine was broken, and the breakfast area had clothes, tools, and a shovel lying around, among other things that weren’t food. I would have used the shovel to clear slush, but it had frozen solid. The garbage can out front looked like pigeons had pooped all over it, and clearly needed to be wiped down. The freezer compartment in the tiny fridge was hanging down. There was a spare fridge in the breakfast room, but it was completely torn apart. Maybe duct tape would have helped. They could at least look up how to run a hotel. And if the sink is outside the bathroom, put a towel rack nearby for hand towels and a small dish for the bar soap.
