Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Amsterdam

We stopped here a couple of weeks ago while driving back to CT from Syracuse. Check-in was around 10:00 pm, and the service was friendly. The inside was nice and very clean, and our room was comfortable. There’s a lounge with a fireplace and TV if you want to sit and relax. It’s easy to get to I-90, but far enough away that highway noise didn’t keep us up. For the price, the accommodations were very good.

The front desk clerk was such a lovely, friendly lady, and even bakes cookies for the men staying here for a while on a work project. So freaking nice! The breakfast was simple, with plenty of choices and good coffee. Microtel hotels aren’t always fancy in my experience, but they’re usually clean, cozy, and affordable for what you get. This one was really nice and clean, with comfortable beds and pillows, decent Wi-Fi, and good heat and air conditioning. I’m definitely giving it five stars. Go ahead and book if you want a clean place to stay.

We got in at 12:30 am and realized we hadn’t asked for a rollaway for our third child. The front desk clerk brought one over right away, already made up with all the bedding. They were very helpful, and we’d stay again. It was clean, new, and convenient for a long road trip, right off the highway. Breakfast had a good range, including healthier choices like yogurt, eggs, and fruit, as well as sausage and pancakes.

After a house fire, our insurance company arranged for us to stay here. The front desk agent was kind and patient, but it still took over an hour to get us into a room. We’d discussed our cats with the agent the night before, including needing to keep the door closed, but were never told pets weren’t allowed. We brought them in the next day, and they stayed with us for four days without any major issues. Then at 8:30 in the morning, while I was at work, the owner called screaming that we’d snuck animals in and had to leave immediately. We’d walked in with each large cat in its own carrier, past the front desk and into the room. We didn’t hide anything. He threatened to pack our things and call animal control to remove both our belongings and the cats. My house had just burned, and I wouldn’t knowingly put myself in that situation. I understand if the policy is no animals, but that’s not how this should have been handled. I was blindsided, treated like a criminal, and charged a fee for pets I didn’t know were barred from staying. I have nothing good to say. Don’t stay here. They threaten you and disregard you as a person, as if you’ve done something wrong, when staff could have avoided this by explaining the policy at check-in and during our conversations. The owner is a major reason for this review. I’ve never been spoken to like that. He should think about the situation before calling and accusing someone of wrongdoing.
