We needed a clean place to sleep before catching an early ferry the next morning, after spending a nice day in Anacortes. The sheets looked clean and the bathroom was clean, though dated and with a tiny toilet. Most of the room was okay, but the couch by the door and bed was disgusting, with layers of stains. I wouldn't sit on it, especially for the price. The fireplace was cute, though we didn't use it. There was a distant waterway view from the window, and the pool wasn't working. The hotel is older. There was a car in the lot with weeds growing under the tires, and the stairs to the second floor were rough to climb while carrying luggage.

The room was clean enough and we slept well. It felt safe, the staff were very nice, and I was glad our dog could stay for just $20 extra. Check carefully, though, since not every room type allows dogs. The hot shower had low pressure. Bring your own shampoo. In the room there was a coffee maker with two pots' worth, a mini fridge, small microwave, two chairs, table, and flat screen TV. In the morning I was told there was cereal and more coffee in the office, though I didn't check it out. The price was reasonable, and the fireplace was a cool touch, but there wasn't a fire extinguisher in the room, which made me wonder about safety. The room was dated: curtains were ragged and falling apart, the floor was very dirty, and there was ash in the fireplace from previous guests. I like old decor and wood, and think some better cleaning, fresh curtains, lighting, and paint could improve it. I've stayed in worse places, but this one could use more care. I love this area. 🙂

The bed was genuinely comfortable, and I liked having a fireplace. The inn itself feels dated, though, and our room had lights that didn't work and weak water pressure. Breakfast was a basic continental spread, and the front desk staff were polite. Fine for a practical night on the road, but I wouldn't choose it for a luxury getaway.

We found The Islands Inn affordable, clean, and comfortable, with the amenities we expected. A few things went awry: the sink only ran hot or warm, so we couldn't use that water for drinking, and the fireplace logs we'd been told would be there were missing. That was a letdown in winter. Breakfast was also delayed until too late for us because the lobby attendant overslept. Apart from those odd problems, the stay was comfortable and the staff were accommodating.

The air conditioning worked, and the smoke smell faded fairly quickly. Still, the room felt old, the beds and linens looked cheap, and we used our own blankets and pillows instead. Breakfast was a disappointing setup of white and wheat bread, a very old toaster, and hard-boiled eggs. The in-room coffee maker and microwave could use replacing too. We booked through Expedia, expecting a homey, affordable place. We had two young kids who'd be out most of the time, so the dated exterior didn't put me off much. At check-in, though, we were told about a refundable $100 deposit and an extra $5 charge for our two-year-old, even though Expedia had listed the child as free. I let that go. Before checkout, the kids spilled soda on the dark, already stained green carpet. We used the worn towels to clean it up, left them in the tub, told the cleaner about the spill, and left her a cash tip. Then a badly written email said our deposit wouldn't be returned because we'd had a dog in the room. What? I replied and still haven't had an answer. My card has since been charged another $220, which I've reported to my bank as fraud. Camping at the state park for the next two nights was much nicer. We learned to read reviews first.
