The owners are really nice, but the hotel was so dirty that we left even though we'd already paid. I lost about $70 because they wouldn't give me a full refund. We checked into the Days Inn across the street for only about $15 more per night. I'd read reviews mentioning suspicious people on the property and poor cleanliness, but figured it couldn't be that bad. When we arrived, the trash and bags in the parking lot and the uneasy feeling around the place put me off, but I checked in anyway. The sheets clearly hadn't been washed and had large dirt stains. The front door was filthy, the window screen was broken, and there were cockroaches in the restroom. The rest of the room was in bad shape too.

We arrived around 9 p.m. hoping to shower, use the toilet, and go to bed, but the water had been shut off throughout the property because of plumbing problems. It stayed off for nearly two hours. The owner's wife was apologetic and kind. It was inconvenient, but it wasn't their fault, and it isn't why I gave a mediocre rating. The owners are a lovely family and accommodated our small requests. They brought extra towels and a hair dryer, which may have belonged to the owner, as well as three plastic baggies and three plastic spoons. The working fridge and very small microwave were useful, and the beds and pillows were comfortable enough. Room 214 was clean, but needed repairs: the toilet paper holder was coming off, there was a hole in the wall behind the towel rack, and the sink vanity was pulling away from the wall. The furniture was old, scratched, and torn, the walls needed paint, and the room smelled like pot. There was no non-slip surface in the tub, and my son and I both slipped and nearly fell. The shampoo and conditioner came in two tiny packets, about one and a half tablespoons each. The towels and washcloths were very rough, and the towels were tiny, child-sized ones. The flimsy plastic cups nearly tipped over with liquid in them, and you had to ask for a hair dryer.

We didn't stay because the smell was so strong. The rooms shown on the website aren't the ones being rented. It was very dirty and smelled horrible, with no soap, shampoo, or anything as a courtesy. The owners were really nice, but the office was extremely dirty too. We were told we'd get a refund, but it's been over a month and nothing has come through. They won't even take the call. I made the reservation on Price Line, which goes through booking a day, but they still can't issue a refund. Such a loss.

The area felt sketchy, with random people walking around. We didn't stay for our family's sake and got a refund, then spent the middle of the night driving all over the city to find a decent hotel. The door was jammed and took a hard push to open. Inside, there was a random creepy wooden chair and a mildew smell. When we checked the bathroom, baby cockroaches were all over the tub, and my husband squished one in the room. There was hair all over the bed. The room was disgusting. Don't waste your time or safety, go elsewhere.

The staff are the best, really nice and friendly. I've stayed here for two weeks and plan to keep choosing this motel whenever I come for knotts or Disneyland. It's close to both, and the rooms are clean and smell good. Even the non-smoking rooms smell fresh, not like cigarettes. It's way better than the Dixie, where I stayed before the Lodge. Very happy with the place and the prices are the best too. Keep up the great work, everyone should try it!
