Arctic Fox Inn

The apartment was huge and everything in it worked. We stayed three nights. The first night we were tired and cranky, and the host helped carry my cases up to the top floor. We could hear the neighboring room coughing, and the railroad was a bit noisy, but we slept very well the next two nights. Arctic Fox felt secure, clean, and comfortable. Thanks to the hosts, especially for the birthday chocolates, lol!

The building looked a little sketchy from outside, but inside we felt safe and comfortable, and everything was clean. My sister and I shared a room for two with the bathrooms shared as well. They ask guests to leave their shoes off, which helps keep the floors and bathrooms clean. It was quiet, and the owner seemed friendly and around often.

The bed was the one real problem: the box spring was clearly broken, so one side of the queen was uncomfortable. Otherwise, Arctic Fox was as advertised, with breakfast supplies that were better than we expected. The place is attractive, well cared for, and a good value, an easy walk from downtown. The area felt fine to us for somewhere fairly urban. I wouldn’t put much stock in the safety complaints unless you’re used to a suburban bubble.

The train was the deal breaker for me. It comes by several times an hour nearby and lays on its horn through the night. I’m used to city noise, but this was ridiculously loud. Earplugs helped only a little, and I couldn’t have slept without them. Otherwise the area is quiet enough, though you may want somewhere nearer downtown. The inn itself gives you lots of space, with a living room and kitchen that make the room feel like an apartment. Check-in is easy too, they send a code so you can arrive whenever.
