The Madrones

The location made it easy to visit the Anderson Valley wineries, and the place itself felt like Tuscany. I loved all the little touches, from the gardens and linens to the rooms, plus the delicious fruit and homemade cinnamon bread delivered every day. It felt magical, and I haven't found anywhere else like it.

This little gem has a real Italy-or-France feel. There’s an event center that would be perfect for weddings or anniversaries, along with two wine tasting rooms, a restaurant, and a Cannibis Pharmacy. Loved it!

The room was lovely, the grounds were peaceful, and the resident cat was friendly. The employee at the on-site gift and cannabis shop was also very welcoming. We stayed midweek for a few nights while traveling to the redwoods, but the restaurant and tasting rooms were closed for the season. The setting and room deserve five stars from me. Service gets three, though, because check-in felt so chilly. We'd warned staff that the rain and wind on the roads might make us four minutes late. The website says, “We are happy to arrange a late arrival for you,” so we thought that would be fine. When we got there, we were told we were the inn's only guests and that no staff would remain after check-in. We asked who to contact if there was a problem or emergency, and were told the after-hours contact was on vacation, so there basically wasn't anyone available. We then asked if we could quickly look over the room before the employee left, just to make sure everything was okay. They asked, “what are you concerned about”? It felt like our arrival was an inconvenience and the employee didn't want to check us in. Then they said, “See? It's never just 5 minutes”, even though we'd only been there a few minutes. That remark and the attitude made us feel unwelcome and took the shine off our arrival.

We only stayed briefly in September, but it was such a lovely experience. The room had a distinctive, tasteful style, and the gardens were magnificent, like a work of art. Everything was quiet, peaceful, and spotless, exactly what we needed.
