Baymont by Wyndham Anderson

My room was clean, well maintained, and I slept well. The internet was reliable too. The breakfast smelled a bit funny, though they had the usual options along with scrambled eggs and sausage. I travel a lot, so hotel breakfasts usually disappoint me anyway.

For under $100 a night, this was a clean and comfortable place to stay. The beds were comfortable and the internet worked well, though the room temperature kept swinging between hot and cold. Shower pressure was okay. Breakfast was average: the eggs were inedible, but the biscuits and gravy and sausage were fine.

I was there for a week while my wife attended a conference and I worked remotely. The Wi-Fi was strong and fast almost all the time. It wasn’t as quick as my fiber at home, but it was more than enough for remote access to my work computer in another state and for Zoom meetings. The staff were excellent, and I could always get clean towels when I needed them. Breakfast was good, the pool was warm and relaxing, and parking was plentiful even when the hotel was nearly full. It’s well worth the price. The location gets especially popular on weekends, probably because it’s near the racino.

Five years ago, my mom and I stayed in room 211, and I still can’t explain what happened that night. The shadows and figures I tried to ignore are still vivid. The bathroom door kept opening and shutting quickly, over and over. I was crying and begging my mom to make it stop. When it finally stopped, he got up and left. Before we went out, Mom tried the bathroom door, but it was locked. We slept in the car. When it was time for me to go back with my dad, we returned for my things. The bathroom door was unlocked and wide open. I’d written similar reviews back then, but I can’t find them now. I was thinking about it today and searched the hotel again, and sure enough, I found the review I’d left. My mom died a couple of months after this, obviously unrelated, and I wish she were here to back me up on the story.
