Comfort Inn & Suites Ankeny - Des Moines

The first desk clerk was very pleasant, and my room was clean with a comfortable bed. There’s a pool, but no hot tub or whirlpool. The walls are thin, so I could hear the busloads of students and footsteps from upstairs. My laptop couldn’t connect because the TV’s HDMI didn’t work and the desk didn’t provide a cable. Wi-Fi was poor for streaming too. I wouldn’t recommend this place and won’t return.

The night clerk made mistakes on my bill while trying to correct it. A month later, hundreds of dollars in unauthorized charges are still continuing on my card. I tried to resolve it, but ended up making police reports about the charges so I could try to block this hotel from my card. The customer service was awful, and there was mold running up the shower walls in the bathroom. Beware if you choose to stay here.

I picked this hotel for its location near the High Trestle Trail, decent ratings, and reasonable price, and stayed four nights, Sunday through Wednesday. The room was spacious and quiet, the neighborhood was decent and fairly walkable, and the staff were pleasant and attentive. Breakfast was satisfactory. The Wi-Fi was terrible, and the curtains didn’t block the parking lot lights well enough to make the room dark at night. A plumbing problem meant I had to take a cold shower, though it was fixed later that day. The hair conditioner was noisy and couldn’t keep the humidity comfortable.

I wouldn’t recommend this place for a business trip. We wrapped up our project early, but the front desk wouldn’t check us out or give me a receipt. I’ve never run into that at another hotel. When I explained I needed the receipt to process my expenses, the clerk became very rude.
