We were exhausted when we finally returned after spending the evening at the hospital with a family member. The first room was filthy: water sat in the tub, the floor hadn’t been vacuumed, the walls were damaged, the lights had no bulbs, and duct tape covered an outlet. The elevator seemed unsafe, so we took the stairs to the third floor. At the desk, we asked for a refund and were given another room instead. That suite had chemicals in both air registers and extension cords plugged into other extension cords, which were then powering lamps. We were concerned about breathing the fumes and the fire risk. It took more than 20 minutes of arguing before we got a full refund and moved to a cleaner, safer hotel. The paperwork says you have only 30 minutes to request a refund, and they didn’t want to return our money. I’d inspect your room as soon as you get the key. I don’t consider this a safe building.

I found heroin needles under the mattress when I checked it for bed bugs. I didn’t see any bugs or signs of them, but that was enough for us to leave. Staff offered another room, though we were ready to get out. The clerk had been friendly, and we’d checked in despite the building looking sketchy and smelling of mold. We’d booked through Expedia for a local event because the price seemed good. Room insurance got our money back. The place felt dirty and unsafe, and I don’t recommend staying there. The city should shut it down.

The room was very dark, with dim lights, and the carpet needed vacuuming. In the bathroom, the tub was disgusting, there was what I think was pubic hair on the walls, and we got two hand towels but no washcloth. The sheets smelled like oil, and there was only a sheet and duvet, no actual blankets. The TV had just 10 channels, there was no microwave, and the fridge sat at the foot of the bed. The only vending machine was in the lobby and way overpriced. The hall carpets were filthy and smelled of cannabis. Outside felt sketchy, and the parking lot was rough. The pool had been closed for about 2 years.

We spent only a few minutes in the room before leaving. It was dark, dirty, and stinky, and my wife wouldn’t even set our bags down. The bathroom had two towels, a loose tub surround, and mold on it and the shower curtain. The old TV had no cable or anything. We’d booked online through Expedia, but the exterior looked untouched for years and the parking lot was full of potholes. The empty pool had mold and weeds around it. A random person was sitting in the hall, and nobody was at the desk at first. The woman who checked us in wasn’t friendly and didn’t introduce herself. The building was dark, smelled of cigarette smoke, and the elevator had missing button numbers, looked gross, and sounded like it might break. We wouldn’t have stayed even if they’d offered another room. We were too grossed out to take pictures.

The room was in such rough shape that I was surprised plugging in a hairdryer didn’t start a fire. The bathroom ceiling was crumbling, and the carpeted floorboards were torn up and hanging off the wall. Everything had stains or crumbs on it, and I checked for bed bugs before lying down on the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. The heater was loud and smelled terrible. Rain came in through the window, and the blinds wouldn’t close all the way. It was dirty, disgusting, and dim, with breakfast practically nonexistent. For $100+ a night, I expected more. I’ve read the place is being torn down. Good. I can’t believe it’s still open.
