EVEN Hotel Ann Arbor S - University Area by IHG

Paul at reception was very friendly and thorough during check-in, explaining where things were and when breakfast and dinner were served. Our room was very clean, and we were surprised to find resistance bands and yoga mats there. EVEN had the amenities we needed, including food, a pool, and a hot tub, among all the hotel options in Ann Arbor. It's also very close to the indoor track and lots of restaurants. I'd recommend it to anyone staying in the area.

The vestibule on the way into the lobby reeked of synthetic fragrance, so I'm taking off a star. Fragrance-free is healthier. Otherwise, Even is a decent hotel: modern bathroom and lighting, fairly quiet hallways, complimentary water bar, spacious shower, and comfortable beds.

Service was up to par, and breakfast was phenomenal. It was paid, but that was explained before booking, so no complaint there. The pool being closed was a letdown. My main issue was how outdated the hotel felt, very old and musty. There was also public hair in the bathroom from previous guests, which was pretty gross.

Breakfast was extremely limited, with a small menu and only one type of omelette. They didn't even have the oatmeal listed on the menu. For the location, calling it the University Area is misleading, it's nowhere near U of M, and you basically need a car to get anywhere. I could have paid a little more elsewhere for a better hotel and saved on Uber or Lyft rides. In the room, the heating and AC unit was in the window, and you could hear the air blowing even at the lowest setting. The yoga mat and elastic stretch things were nice, though.
