This hotel is right in the heart of Ann Arbor, above a nice little coffee shop and an amateur comedy club, and it's a great affordable option if you're comfortable without staff at a desk. Blue Suede does a good job with the remote-service hotel setup: check-in is entirely digital and you enter using codes. The rooms are basically former apartments, like an Airbnb on steroids, very nice but with minimal amenities. I definitely recommend it! 💯

The room was nice and clean, and the bed was extremely comfortable with plenty of pillows. There were only two large towels, though, and not enough places to hang wet ones. I think there should have been at least four to six large towels. I had a problem with the access codes and had to text for help. You can even get stuck in the elevator and have to text them because they can't hear you. One funny detail, the kitchen silverware drawer interfered with the refrigerator.

We were a little nervous after reading other reviews, but the stay went great. Online check-in and the access codes worked without a problem, and the concierge service was quick and friendly when we needed help. The place was clean and comfortable, and the kitchen had the basics for cooking. The gym on the main floor was nice, and there's a comedy club in the basement. Cups N Chai next door is a lovely coffee spot. Shops, bars, and food are all within walking distance. The parking garage is very close and cost $33 overnight, which didn't feel like too much given the room price. We'll be back!

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel exactly twice, and both experiences were horrible. I believe the property managers know about the risks of how they operate but overlook guest safety for profit. The rooms were nice, and the location was in a busy downtown area of a safe city, so after the first incident we thought maybe it had been a one-off and decided to try again. On our first stay, we had tickets to a show at the comedy club in the building, and friends had booked a room too. At 4am, after a fight broke out on the floor below us, someone used a pistol to bludgeon our friends' hotel door. When someone in the commotion heard sirens, they shouted, “POLICE ARE COMING! EVERYBODYS GOTTA GO!” and everyone scattered just before police arrived. We were escorted out as officers brought in a battering ram to get into the room in question because SWAT couldn't access it. There wasn't a staff member on site to help. On the way out, we saw blood on the walls and ceilings in the halls and elevator. It was horrific. We thought safety protocols would prevent anything like it happening again, and that we'd simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time. We booked another overnight because we had concert tickets around the corner. We returned around 11pm and called the hotel service number several times over two hours about a loud party and what sounded like arguing on our floor. Their response was to call the guest who'd booked the room and remind them of hotel policies. After more calls, the situation escalated. I thought I heard gunshots, then a woman screamed in the hallway that shots had been fired and there was blood all over the bathroom. Still no word from hotel staff, so I called 911. Just like before, once they heard sirens, people ran down the stairwells. Police swarmed the hall and again had to break down a door with a battering ram because they couldn't access the room. My husband and I had to leave our room at 1am. The next morning I explained everything to the helpline. They offered to refund just 20% of the stay, a mere $40 for what we'd been through. When I asked for management, they told me the decision was final and there'd be no further communication. They said they'd handled it properly and promptly. Their customer service was awful. I do not recommend this hotel at all. We never got a refund and the hotel stopped responding, so I had to dispute the charge with my bank. Don't book here. Profit over safety.

I'm not usually one to leave a bad review, but after several frustrating interactions with customer service, I cancelled my five-night reservation, which cost $1,000. Also, be aware that to confirm a booking, you'll be required to send a copy of your driver's license and “a real-time selfie.”
