Sonesta Simply Suites Detroit Ann Arbor

I spent two weeks here for work and wouldn't recommend Sonesta Simply Suites Detroit Ann Arbor. The free laundry was the one positive, but it doesn't make up for the poor cleanliness, maintenance, and constant passive-aggressive notes. Trash sat in my room for three days and started to smell. Wi-Fi was so unreliable that working or streaming consistently was difficult. Management seemed more focused on slipping notes under the door about what you can't do or should do than on fixing actual problems. The gym was old and poorly maintained, and its one decent machine was broken, something that seemed like it could be repaired quickly but clearly wasn't a priority. I wouldn't stay again.

The staff were amazing, and I felt very safe here. As a Black woman, traveling can be hard because you don't know how people will treat you. I regularly get hotels for my self-care days, and I'll check this place again since it's pet-friendly.

The inside of this extended stay was a humbling sight. The rooms were dirty, the couch was solid, and the floor smelled like spoiled milk. The front desk clerk was very rude and wouldn't get up to address the Wi-Fi problems. He looked hung over, as though he were a day laborer. I now know what it's like to live in a homeless shelter for dogs. Very humiliating.

The room was clean, organized, and had everything we needed for a nice little stay, beyond what we expected. The bed was comfortable, though the room felt a little cool.
