Super 8 Motel - Antigo

I’m in town once a month for work with a local company, and I’ve stayed here before. This time I figured I’d get a room and relax instead of sleeping in my truck. It didn’t disappoint: good price, clean room, breakfast, and a very nice owner and staff. I may stay here for a night each month when I’m in town. Highly recommend it.

We had things stolen from our ATV trailer during the stay, including a 6 gallon fuel tank and tools from the ATV compartments. Someone had climbed onto the trailer and searched it. It was my fault for leaving it out, and the theft itself wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but be aware there are no security cameras monitoring the grounds. When I asked the front desk about footage, I learned there were no cameras. We also asked about two very shabby RVs parked in the lot where we had to park. The manager said nobody lived in them, but later we saw people coming and going, and both RVs were plugged in. We felt uneasy coming back late at night. We called the police, and the officer said things like this happen often here. The manager told us, “this has never happened before.” The breakfast was another disappointment. It runs only three hours, 6-9 each day, and the room is the smallest I’ve ever seen, with just three tables and room for at most 12 people in a cramped layout. People had to get up so others could reach the food, and the person preparing it used the microwave there for eggs and sausage, adding to the chaos. There’s a call button for more food, which I’ve never seen at a hotel. Guests had to press it, sometimes more than once, whenever they wanted more eggs or sausage. They only put out a little at a time, even when breakfast was nowhere near over. It all felt cheap, and we didn’t feel welcome. The coffee was extremely weak, the eggs and sausage were okay, there was no waffle maker, and instead they had thawed Great Value frozen waffles to put in the toaster. The juice was watered down too. It felt like breakfast was being provided reluctantly. The small breakfast room might have bothered me less if a family hadn’t occupied one of the three tables for the whole breakfast period. I suspected they lived in one of the RVs because they always left by way of the pool area rather than the front entrance. They’d wait until someone rang for more food and then take what came out, leaving paying guests with scraps. Not ideal. The owners seem either unaware or willing to let it keep happening. I’m fairly sure Super 8 Corporate wouldn’t approve, and it may be against policy. Local businesses warned me twice not to stay here. When I said I already was, I got this face: 😬 The room itself was clean, but the refrigerator was completely frozen up. Since we were there for three nights, I unplugged it, let it thaw, cleaned it, and plugged it back in. The pool was clean and the hot tub was hot.

The room was comfortable and clean, and check-in was quick with a pleasant, professional employee. I could hear people talking pretty late because the walls seemed thin. Breakfast was in a small area, but it was nice and had a decent selection. Checkout was easy too, and the employee was pleasant.

We love this Super 8. The staff are always happy to see us, and the manager is amazing. They make our family feel welcome every time. The beds are so comfortable you just sink into them, and the place is clean and smells really good whenever we stay. The pool and hot tub are a must for my family, and they’re always clean and at just the right temperature. We’ll be back on our next trip!
