The room assignment issue started after I arrived. I’d checked in without anyone mentioning a change, then found I’d been moved from my confirmed suite to a lower room. Staff blamed my supposedly late response, even though payment had been approved before I got there and no deadline had been stated. The adjustment was about $2. When I tried to discuss it calmly, staff laughed, brushed me off, and walked away. Around 6:00 AM I was also told I wasn’t on the room, despite having checked in. Someone inside let me in. I rarely post negative reviews, but this stay at AmericInn by Wyndham – Apple Valley, MN on February 14 needs to be recorded. I had a confirmed suite, confirmation #85028EE037468. At about 5:00 PM the hotel called about updating payment. The booking page said “pay at property,” with no prepayment requirement or specific deadline. Within ten minutes I told them I was down the street handling it, and within another ten minutes payment was updated and approved, before I arrived. This wasn’t about luxury. It was about communication, accountability, and basic respect for guests. Mistakes happen, but this was handled poorly from beginning to end. A $2 difference for downgrading a confirmed suite didn’t feel like good faith service recovery. Sometimes a setback is divine redirection. Relocating led us to the perfect candidates for the new cars. What seemed inconvenient became alignment. God orders our steps, even when the detours don’t make sense. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God.” – Romans 8:28. Blessings can meet us where we’re redirected. Grateful for the shift, the mission, and the change. 🙏

Even so far from home, Moon made us feel completely welcome. She took the time to get to know us and gave us such a personal touch. I felt like the most important guest there. 10/10.

After a long day of travel, Moon’s smile and upbeat greeting were such a welcome sight. She helped with all our questions and needs, and was absolutely amazing.

The Friday night noise was brutal. Cowboy Jacks is in the same parking lot, and people were whooping, yelling, and partying until 3 AM. My son was exhausted and crying, and we got only about 3.5 hours of sleep. It was Halloween, which affected this stay, but the bar’s location won’t change and people party on other nights too. We were there Thursday through Saturday for volleyball tournaments, and needed two queen beds for our group. At check-in I found the room door wouldn’t lock. I went to call the desk, but the phone had no cord and wasn’t hooked up. Back in the lobby I was told there were no other two-bed rooms. Since I had only one child with me then, the desk person asked, “but you shouldn’t need 2 beds anyway right?” I accepted a one-bed room, which they called a suite, though I’m not sure what made it a suite besides an extra sink. Then the elevator stopped working before we could go up. After a long drive, carrying suitcases up four flights with a tired, hungry child was miserable. On day two I was told I’d have to check back in because they might need to move me, but there was no guarantee a two-bed room would be available the next night either. No apology, discount, or refund was offered, even though this wasn’t the reservation we’d wanted. I made other arrangements for my kids to stay elsewhere, and we kept the one-bed room. There was rarely anyone at the front desk when we needed help, though the staff were friendly when we did see them. I paid the same for half the reservation I’d booked, and got almost no sleep. If I’d had nowhere to be and no kids, maybe I could have slept in, but that wasn’t our situation. If I were alone with no plans, I’d stay again. With children or a need for a good night’s sleep, I wouldn’t.
