La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Appleton College Avenue

We were happy with our stays here, using the hotel at both the beginning and the end of our trip. I’d definitely come back. Just be aware that the light above the entry door is out, so it’s worth checking where you’re going if you arrive in the dark.

We’ve stayed here twice in eight months and have been very pleased both times. The hotel is much nicer than its price suggests, and the breakfast is as good as anywhere.

The location worked for me, and the bed was comfortable. The rest of the stay was rough, even for one night. There was no hot water from the tap, and breakfast came with plastic plates and a plastic knife. The elevator had no current technical inspection stamp and took me to a different floor than the one I wanted. Staff said it had just happened, but other reviews suggest otherwise. The heater was very noisy and kept switching on and off, so the room swung between too hot and too cold. The bathroom, especially the bathtub, was worn out and felt dirty and awful. Never again, whatever the price.

There aren't many guests around, and the rules are strict. I felt watched constantly: the desk worker knew when I visited my friend and when I left and returned to my room. Staff write down what guests do wrong and report it at the end of their shift, which is creepy. A late visitor costs extra, and even after paying they don't get a key. If they stay past midnight, you get charged again for the new day. This place used to be okay, but it has really gone downhill. Watch out for the woman with straight brown hair and an 80s look. She seems to be the one who delivers bad news.
