Shady Rest Motel

I’ve been in McCook for work this past week, and this is the best place I’ve stayed. The beds are super comfortable, even better than Quality Inn, and the towels were clean, not worn-out recycled ones. Ryan and Victoria gave immaculate service. Shady where? I’d recommend it 100%.

A nice place to stay in a small town really matters. We were here for graduation, and because we booked online, check-in was easy. The room had been updated with laminate flooring and had good lighting and a full-size table. The bed was comfortable, and the linens were soft and clean. The shower had strong pressure and a very large head. The breakfast sack lunch is a great idea, and these owners are doing a great job.

We arrived late at night, so contactless check-in was a real plus, and the service was great. Nice little place for a great price. The bed felt a bit too firm for us personally, though. Otherwise, we'd definitely recommend it.

The owners called after seeing my first review, apologized, and refunded the room rate plus one pet fee. They explained the heater had a mechanical issue and that the other rooms weren't representative of the problem. They made it right, and we really appreciated the excellent customer service. We'd been traveling from AZ to WI during an unusually cold week and called about 30 minutes away to ask if a room was available. She said yes, no problem. The room was very clean and the owner was extremely nice, but outside it was 3° and the heater was set to 45°. After an hour, it had only reached 49°. The floors were like ice and we were freezing. Luckily, we had a small space heater. Between that and turning up the heater, it got warm enough to sleep after a couple of hours. This is an updated review after the owners compensated us for the heating issues.
