Hampton Inn & Suites Arcata

The pool and jacuzzi were decent and clean, and the room was nice and tidy. The evening staff were very helpful, while the day staff felt robotic. Breakfast was the worst I've had, with cold food that, as a cook, I don't think met health regulations. The parking lot stayed wet and had ice in the morning. We were told by the morning desk person, “oh I put a note on the door.” No one reads notes. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos.

The staff are fantastic, always nice and accommodating, and we've never had a problem with their service or attitude. We feel safe here, even though some other lodging options around Arcata seem a little sketchy. The location makes it easy to reach the freeway, the college, downtown Arcata, groceries, gas, and decent food. We keep coming back when we visit our daughter and grandkids. The kids love the indoor pool, the gym is handy when we're on the go, and breakfast is what you'd expect from a Hampton Inn. My one suggestion would be better beds, but the roomy rooms and everything else make up for it. Thanks for the great hospitality!

Service depended on who was working. Tyler was helpful and accommodating at check-in, and the woman managing breakfast was great, keeping everything clean and stocked. On our third night, they began replacing furniture in all the rooms as part of a remodel. We hadn't been told this was happening. On our last day someone tried to enter our room while changing things, but the extra lock was secured. As we were leaving, a worker asked if we were coming back. I said no, and meant not next time. We’ll find another hotel. I'm glad we weren't there during the day, or we would have switched hotels. The rooms themselves were clean.

I checked in on Saturday for one night. The lobby and common areas were clean and organized, as were the spacious dining area and food service area. The lobby bathroom was well lit, clean, and stocked, with one urinal and two stalls. There were two PCs and a printer in the business center. WiFi at 5:41 PM tested at 26.0 Mbps down, 29.0 Mbps up, with 15 ms latency. The outside grounds were clean and maintained, with parking on three sides and good lighting. It felt safe, though there were no trash cans by the side doors. The front desk staff member was helpful and apologized about the room not being ready, which wasn't his fault, but didn't offer Hilton member water and a snack. Digital check-in and keys were available. I got confirmation that my room was ready and a digital key. It opened the side doors and ice maker, but not my room. The desk said housekeeping hadn't finished. The housekeeper was friendly and completed the cleanup within ten minutes. Room 109 had a microwave with AC outlets and two USB ports, plus a refrigerator and coffee maker. It smelled clean, though the top of the desk mirror needed dusting. Lighting was ample, without dark spots. The HVAC was under the window, and its filter needed cleaning, as shown in the photo. The bathroom was clean and spacious. Oddly, the coffee maker sat on the counter by the sink. There was a shower only, with a fixed wall head. The eggs were okay, but the pork patty was really, really salty, and the hash brown was mushy rather than crisp. The pool deck was clean and stocked with towels, with a hot tub and shower. The fitness center was clean and well stocked, with wipes and water fountains. Guest laundry was on the ground floor by the west entrance. The ice maker was in the east hallway on the ground floor and required a door card. There were two passenger elevators.
