Budget Inn

Three weeks ago we stayed here without any major problems, so we came back and booked for two weeks. We were made to leave after just two days. The owner is very awesome, but was out of town. The young woman at the front desk was extremely rude and, in my experience, racist. There was a long incident involving unpleasant behavior in front of my children. During our earlier stay, my special-needs kids' emotional support cats were allowed with their cards, and there were no fees. This time we were charged $200 and told to leave. Last time we got room service for free and could cook in the room without any issues. On this visit, the sink was clogged before we arrived. We were charged another $38 per night for room service and housekeeping, but the room was never cleaned. When I asked, they denied it. As they were asking us to leave, she said we'd clogged the sink in two plus rooms, even though I told her it was clogged 15 minutes after we arrived. I'll walk away and report the hotel. The rooms are large, but the bathrooms don't vent. Everything gets soaking wet and grows mold, so beware of a lot of mold. Aside from the bathroom and the rude young woman, the place and everyone else are decent.

There's plenty of room, and it appeared clean. I didn't find bed bugs like some other reviewers reported. Still, the room smelled like a hospital. They add an $18 cleaning fee, so the online price makes the motel look cheaper than it is. Many motels in Carlsbad don't charge one.

The room was clean, and the bed was soooo comfortable. Two things brought down the rating for me. They kept mentioning a $200 fee if someone was caught smoking in the room. Smoking is my bad habit, and when there's no smoking room available, I always go outside. The other issue came up when we called around for rates and found out locals are charged a $300 deposit. Locals are the people who clean, do laundry, and help make the Inn a good place to stay. It's sad when a local business doesn't support its community. For that reason alone, I'd suggest looking at another hotel until the policy changes. Very sad indeed.

I drove 14 hours for a week of work and still wanted to give this place a shot after reading the negative comments. They wouldn't let us see the room before booking, saying it was against policy. I've stayed at hundreds of hotels and motels and never run into that before. Once you buy the room, there's a 100% no-refund guarantee, and the room has to be trashed. Terrible.
