After more than six months here, I only recently learned there’s a monthly rate. Prices go up and down. Maintenance and cleanliness have been serious problems: the place has bedbugs and cockroaches, the laundry room has bugs, and maid service may not come until you’ve stayed over two weeks, sometimes a month. Trash bins on each floor are often full or overflowing, and the front desk won’t empty them when asked. There’s no recycling. The TV satellite service cuts in and out. We had no hot water for a week, and the elevator was broken for about a month total over six months. The back door lock was broken for over six months, and the laundry room door lock has never worked. Two fire doors in each stairwell don’t function, so smoke could fill the stairwells in a fire. There’s no ice machine, only three soda and candy machines on the first floor, and no automatic entrance door, which makes getting in and out difficult with a wheelchair or luggage. Wheelchair parking spots are often taken by people without disabilities. Arvada government buys rooms here for homeless people, so the building can feel scary. There are dogs barking in the halls day and night, sometimes at 2 pm or whenever, and the walls are thin enough that you can hear people having sex next door. Smokers often crowd the entrances, against city ordinances. There are many homeless people nearby, and Arvada police are often in the building for criminal activity. Staff turnover is high, which I put down to incompetence at the first and second levels. There have been four building managers in eight months, and the other staff have all been replaced at least once, some four or more times. Many staff don’t speak English or have very limited English.

I thought the price was fine for a one-room place to sleep, but there were cockroaches crawling around. I was so scared my husband had to kill them for me. He got at least five adults and three babies. I’m going to sleep with one eye open tonight. I’m not usually someone who complains, so I just deal with it.

The bathroom was awful, and we wore house shoes around the room because we were afraid of catching something. The room looked clean, but that was misleading. While I was reading on the bed, I felt bugs on my arms and saw that it was bedbugs. At check-in, the staff were anything but polite. Then three men who seemed to be different from one another followed me whispering down the hall, stairs, and into the parking lot to my car. Traveling alone, with family, or with children is scary enough, and that behavior was unacceptable. This was the worst hotel experience of my life. Do not stay here.

Really nice place, humble and extra kind. It was clean and worth the money. I had no problem leaving my 19-year-old daughter there alone while I ran errands.
