The service was good, and it’s a cheap place to crash if you’re drunk enough not to care and want a belly buster breakfast the next morning. That was about the only upside for me. My room smelled musty and like decades of cigarette smoke, looked nothing like the photos, and had a window view of a big blue light covered in bugs. The bed creaked badly and left my back sore, and the shower was so grimy I felt like I could get in cleaner than I’d come out. I didn’t trust the elevators either. One had a hole in the floor. The river walk behind the hotel was disappointing and smelled like dead fish.

My girlfriend and I used to stay at the Edgewater at least once a month. The price was good when they put us by the elevator, but we heard clunks and slamming all night. The next month I asked at check-in if we were beside the elevator again. They said yes, so I requested another room and paid $30 extra for the upgrade. Then my bill showed a $500 charge. When I called to ask why, they said I had smoked in the room. I don’t smoke, told them I’d dispute it, and the woman hung up on me. I asked for an incident report and wanted to provide photos, but she hung up again. I’ve contacted the NGCB, BBB, and Nevada attorney General. A friend had the same thing happen within a week, and I’ve heard this is common. If you stay at the Edgewater, ask them to note that you’re inspecting the room before check-in and take pictures. I shouldn’t be charged because somebody smoked there before me, and the room should be comped, not refurbished at my expense. I feel they charged me more than average to intimidate me. I’ve never smoked in a hotel and won’t pay this. I’ll take it to the box and hope it makes a difference. I hope whoever is doing this loses their job. I’d take this post down if they worked with me, but I hope they’re under investigation. Stay away unless you want to deal with this deceptive practice.

I only went to a casino for the first time in six years, to spend time with Mom and play $50. In about 45 minutes, the machines tried to keep $4.84 from me. First I put in $4 and the machine registered only $2, so I called security, showed ID, and had them bring the missing $2 from the back. After I cashed out a $60 win, another game started paying out, then I began losing and tried to cash out my $2.84. The money slot went black and wouldn’t let me cash out, so I had to call security again to get the machine to print the $2.84. Watch your money going into the machines. If you’re drinking or chatting with friends and not paying attention, you could lose more. It felt like a total scam to me. Please play with autism and avoid drinking heavily so you can keep track of your cash. If they’re taking $2-$4 per game or person, imagine how much they make from people who don’t speak up or are too tipsy to notice. I won’t return, and my one-star rating is just for the casino. I didn’t stay in a room.

I enjoyed my stay. The river-view room was beautiful and relaxing, and I had no trouble finding it. Check-in at the front desk was quick, and when I needed toilet tissue it arrived in 5-10 minutes. The valet guy was kind and offered to help get my luggage delivered to the room. A security guard said hello as I walked by.

The reservation said there would be no deposit, and I was prepared to pay the $23 tax resort fee. It was a non-refundable booking, but when we arrived at the Edgewater they charged us a $75 deposit. I hate this kind of bait and switch. I felt trapped into paying more than I expected because walking away would have meant losing the gas money and time spent making the reservation, with nothing to show for it. This is deceptive and theft. I asked them to put the deposit on my receipt, but when I checked it at home, the charge wasn’t listed. I had to spend more time dealing with it, only to be told the money could take three to 10 business days to get back to my bank. The receipt was supposed to show it would be credited back at checkout. I made the necessary reports. This kind of unfair business practice has to stop so people aren’t ripped off.
