The beds were comfortable, but there were problems all over the place. The fire alarms went off, and the elevators stayed out for another hour. At least it’s only three floors. The hotel has no outdoor seating for smokers or people who want to watch planes arrive, and since it’s next to a data center you’re stuck with slow WiFi. The TVs kept freezing too. The first floor ice machine was broken, so I had to find the one upstairs. I waited five minutes at reception to check in with nobody around. The entrance doors didn’t work properly: they swung open, sometimes started closing on you, and the accessible button was broken. The shower squealed the entire time, the water pressure was basically nonexistent, and there weren’t many towels. The toilet was very low and leaning, and the showers need updating. Breakfast was bland and hard to chew.
This was insane. I asked Hilton’s main number for help after I couldn’t get anyone at the desk to address the problem, and they said the front desk confirmed the hotel was sold out. They offered to send someone up to fix the room because it was “too cold.” I reminded them it was too hot, and maintenance had already told me the night before that 74 was as cool as the room could get. I asked if I could move to the sister property next door, but because this was work travel booked through AMEX, they said they couldn’t do that and asked if I wanted them to cancel my room. The AC first wouldn’t cool below 74, and maintenance brought a fan after saying that was the coolest setting. Later that night it stopped working completely, and I woke up to 79 degrees. I replied to the automated texts asking how the room and stay were, but got no response or resolution. In the morning nobody was at the desk during the roughly 30 minutes I waited. I had to leave for work, then called the desk several times over 20 minutes to ask if anyone had fixed it or could move me. Nobody answered.
The room stayed really hot, and the front desk offered little response or solution. The AC wouldn’t bring it below 74. Maintenance eventually came up and said 74 was as cold as that room could get, even though the thermostat was set to 70 and he said the air coming out measured 62. It still didn’t help. He said the other rooms were the same, but the hallway was 70. This is insane.
At least there’s a decent food strip nearby and a few data centers close by, which is probably why a lot of guests stay here for work. The rooms are just okay, not the worst but nowhere near the best, and the Verizon signal was abysmal. It felt like the walls were six-inch concrete with signal blockers. I’ve stayed at many Homewood Suites as a Diamond member, and this is easily the second worst. Raleigh-Crabtree is the worst. I was here three days, finally took the privacy sticker off my door, and they only came in to take out the trash. This was the first Homewood I’ve stayed at where you have to request cleaning. Why come in at all if that’s all they do? Next time I’ll try the Embassy if I return, hopefully it isn’t run by the same idiots. Also, fix the tap-to-pay readers in the guest laundry. I shouldn’t need to download an app just to wash clothes.
I’m writing about our stay at Homewood Suites Dulles North/Loudoun on August 2, 2025. We paid $400 a night expecting a relaxing visit, but my family and I felt neglected and disrespected through a stressful, deeply upsetting ordeal. The trouble started before we arrived. I completed online check-in the night before, then tried calling three times to ask about early check-in and couldn’t reach anyone. We arrived two hours before the usual check-in time. The front desk was empty, and the staff member was in a back office. I understood the room wasn’t ready, but an hour later we were told our assigned room, 221, was suddenly out of order for maintenance. It felt like an unprofessional and deliberate delay. We were moved to room 281, which had a glaring hole in the wall. That’s a basic maintenance and quality control failure. When I tried reporting it, the front desk phone went unanswered. By 11:30 pm, our two-bedroom, three-bed suite had only two washcloths. My wife is two months pregnant with twins and asked for more at 9:00 pm. Two and a half hours and several follow-ups later, none had arrived. Our children had the two we were given, leaving my wife and me unable to bathe properly. This was more than an inconvenience, it was a major source of stress for her. The desk was still unresponsive as I wrote this. It’s hard to understand how a Hilton hotel charging a premium can fail to provide such basic care and comfort.
