I can only speak to my own stay, a few years ago just after the remodel opened. The price was good, the room was clean, the bed comfortable and free of bugs, and the area felt quiet and safe. Restaurants and shops were within walking distance, which was handy. Friends and family who’ve stayed more recently have described experiences that were almost the opposite. I’m doubtful I’d return unless reputable sources say the Quality Inn has made serious improvements.

We booked for the price while fleeing the coast because of Hurricane Dorian, but I wouldn’t stay again. The pool was green and closed, though nobody mentioned that when we reserved, so we assumed it was usable. The breakfast room was cramped and poorly stocked, and I saw an employee drop an egg patty on the counter and put it back on the serving plate. She didn’t look clean. The hotel needs repairs and updates, and cleanliness and staff professionalism were lacking. It was hard to tell staff from guests, since people weren’t dressed or acting professionally. The one exception was the woman who checked us in at 6pm on 9/5/19. She was neatly dressed, friendly, and professional.

We left without unpacking and were relieved we did. The room was filthy and unsettling, with blood on the bedding, plus burn holes and cuts. There were missing light bulbs, and outside we saw broken windows and plywood covering openings. The grounds looked poorly kept, and even getting a refund felt sketchy. We arrived late, just needing a place to sleep before continuing our vacation, but there were loud people and children running around. Small children were wandering late at night without supervision, and there were strong signs of drug use. We felt very unsafe. This was an awful place for a family, and we won’t try somewhere like it again.

There wasn’t even the free breakfast advertised online and behind the counter, and the staff were rude. At 9am the cleaning woman banged on my door to ask whether I was staying or leaving, even though checkout was at 11. People made noise all night, and the place felt creepy. It needs major work and probably new owners. I would not recommend it, and it doesn’t deserve even one star. My room smelled horrible and was filthy throughout. There was mold on the instruction manual, dried food in the fridge and freezer, and hair in the nasty tub. The wet, slippery tile floor seemed to be from the air conditioner putting so much moisture into the room. I got just one towel, with no hand towel, washcloth, or floor mat. The linens were awful: dried blood on the pillowcase, stains and black shoe marks on the sheets and bedspread. Though it was supposed to be a nonsmoking room, the bedspread had several cigarette burns.

The third-shift desk worker was especially kind, and the staff overall were wonderful. The main room looked nicely renovated, but the bathroom was more worn. Even though the rooms were supposedly nonsmoking, ours stank of stale smoke. I might stay in a pinch, but I’d probably look elsewhere.
