Inside, I always felt safe, and the room was comfortable and very clean. The AC didn't rattle, and the blackout curtains worked perfectly. Parking is a small lot, and there's no road sign, so I had to trust Google Maps and turn right at the Waffle House. The hotel is behind and to the left of the restaurant. The desk attendant said the sign used to work, so maybe there was one before. As a woman traveling alone, I'm pretty vigilant. The area had lots of homeless people and what looked to me like drug users or people dealing with serious psychological problems, yelling at the air as they walked. Still, I always felt secure inside, so that shouldn't put you off staying.

If you see construction equipment outside, turn around and find another hotel. Hammering and construction noise started right at 8 am for us, and another guest said it began around 7 near them. I didn't come on vacation to be woken up early. The gym and hot tub were also unusable because they were under construction. This should have been disclosed to guests before booking. Zero out of five.

They were literally taking the roof off the building when we were woken by booming and power saws at 7:30 am. I called the front desk, genuinely unsure what was going on, and the receptionist didn't seem sympathetic. The noise kept going full blast until checkout. I can't understand why this work couldn't wait until 11, or why they didn't avoid booking rooms on the top floor. The building also needs substantial updating, which at least seems to be underway. I wouldn't stay again for a couple of years, until the work is finished. Worst hotel experience I've had, hands down.

The hotel and rooms were clean, and the rooms have been updated. But we were disappointed they didn't honor Elite Choice customer rewards with points or snacks, even though the other Country Inn and Suites in Asheville do. The neighborhood felt rundown, with many homeless people, and didn't feel safe. Clean and updated are the positives. No rewards and an unsafe area are the downsides.
